Historic Preservation and Revitalization
Ordinance #01-9091 was adopted by the Selma City Council to set forth certain guidelines and standards in districts within the city designated as Historic Districts; to preserve the distinctive and historic architectural character of the districts; to protect, foster and extend the economic values of the city; to provide for harmonious growth, and to stabilize and improve property values.
Certificate of Appropriateness
To comply with this ordinance, the Certificate of Appropriateness was developed. Prior to obtaining the necessary building permits for all improvements, alterations, repairs, additions, demolition, new construction, signs or fencing within the Historic Districts of the City of Selma, an Application for Certificate of Appropriateness must be completed. An Application must also be completed for landscaping within the Historic District. There is no charge associated with this process.
