The mission of the Judicial Department is to provide a constitutional and statutory medium for the enforcement of traffic offenses, municipal ordinance violations, and State misdemeanors adopted by municipal ordinance as offenses against the City of Selma.
Selma Municipal Court Presiding Judge Brandon J. Wooten graduated with distinction as a scholar-athlete from Selma High School in 2002. He received a football scholarship and went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts in English from Tuskegee University, graduating Cum Laude in 2006. He obtained a J.D. degree from the University of Alabama School of Law in 2009. His career experience includes clerkships with the Honorable Alabama Supreme Court Justice Judge John England, Senator Jeff Sessions, and the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office before establishing the Wooten Law Firm, LLC.
Judge Wooten was admitted to practice law by the Alabama State Bar in 2009, and the United States Federal Court, in the Middle District and Southern Districts of Alabama in 2012. He has been named National Trial Lawyer’s Top 40 Under 40, National Black Lawyer’s Top 40 Under 40, and Selma The Magazine Top 20 Under 40.
He believes in giving back to the community, particularly Selma’s youth. Judge Wooten currently services as Vice President of the local chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc — Omega Chi Chapter, State Counselor — Alabama, and Asst. District Counselor — Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, and Florida. He is a member of the Blackbelt Bar Association, Volunteer Lawyers Program, and Alabama Lawyers Association. Judge Wooten gives back to his community and annually sponsors back to school giveaways for elementary aged children, college scholarships for graduating high school seniors, a summer intern program for future lawyers, and Christmas gifts for children at George Washington Carver Housing Project. His greatest joy is volunteering as a youth football and baseball coach for the City of Selma Department of Recreation.
