Building Inspections
Administrative Assistant
Summary:
Under the supervision of an assigned supervisor, the employee performs clerical, administrative, and operational support to the assigned department. The employee receives calls, greets and assists visitors, provides accurate information, and makes appropriate referrals. The employee performs data entry, prepares and generates reports and correspondence, processes mail, and maintains files. The employee performs prescribed procedures for receiving money and maintains office supplies.
Code Enforcement Department
Human Resources (HR) Generalist
Summary:
Under the general supervision of the HR Director, this employee provides professional personnel services for the City and its employees. The employee functions within established policies, procedures, and processes, and remains in compliance with all federal and state laws, as well as with the personnel policies and procedures set forth by the City, and through City ordinances. The employee consults with the Director and provides human resource-related counsel to department heads and employees on employment and personnel matters and remains current and up to date on laws that affect the City. The employee maintains centralized and official HR functions for the City.

Summary:
Under the direct supervision of the Training Officer, the employee is assigned to learn basic knowledge, skills and abilities that are needed to become a firefighter. The employee participates in on-the-job training and directed self-study in preparation to attend an Alabama Fire College (AFC) course of instruction for Firefighter.

Animal Control Officer
Summary:
Under the general direction of the police lieutenant, the employee investigates animal control related complaints. Receives animal control related complaints (animals fighting, lost or stolen animals, sick or injured animals, dangerous or vicious animals, animal bites, scratches, etc.). Fills out information card and takes to animal shelter or hospital. Enters information into truck logbook. Searches for animal or sets trap. Checks traps as scheduled. Assists shelter to reunite owner with pet. Informs owners of code requirements and re-inspects to ensure compliance. Fills out animal bite reports as necessary.

Parks and Recreation Department
Lifeguard
Summary:
We are looking to recruit an observant lifeguard to ensure the safety of visitors to our aquatic facility. The lifeguard will explain safety rules to patrons, warn them about unsafe situations, and enforce policies on showers and proper attire. You will play an instrumental role in maintaining orderliness by inspecting swimming pool areas, locker rooms, and restrooms. You will maintain pool equipment, and monitor and record pool temperatures.

Compliance Officer – HUD
Summary:
Under the supervision of the Director of Planning & Development, the Compliance Officer ensures the City of Selma’s HUD-funded Lead Hazard Reduction Program (LHRP) and Healthy Homes Production (HHP) Program comply with all applicable federal, state, and local requirements. The employee is responsible for monitoring program implementation, enforcing HUD regulations, managing contractor compliance, maintaining accurate records, supporting financial oversight, and protecting the health and safety of residents—particularly children—through effective lead hazard control and healthy housing interventions. This job is considered security-sensitive and is subject to a pre-employment background check.

The Field Coordinator supports field-based AmeriCorps programs by ensuring effective member support, logistical coordination, safety oversight, and quality programming. Serving as a vital link between Serve Alabama and field teams, this role ensures efficient delivery of services, compliance with AmeriCorps standards, and the well-being of members serving throughout the state.
Administrative Coordinator – HUD LHRP & HHP Programs
Summary:
Under the supervision of the Director of Planning & Development, the Administrative Coordinator provides critical administrative, clerical, and organizational support for the City of Selma’s HUD-funded Lead Hazard Reduction Program (LHRP) and Healthy Homes Production (HHP) Program. The employee assists with program intake, recordkeeping, reporting, scheduling, and communications to ensure compliance with HUD requirements and smooth day-to-day operations. This position is considered security-sensitive and is subject to a pre-employment background check.
Healthy Homes Program Manager
Summary:
Under the supervision of the Director of Planning & Development, the Healthy Homes Program Manager is responsible for the overall administration, implementation, and monitoring of the City’s HUD Healthy Homes Production (HHP) Program. The Program Manager ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local program requirements; oversees staff and contractors performing housing rehabilitation and hazard control; manages budgets and reporting; and leads community engagement and education initiatives to improve housing safety and resident health outcomes. Summary:
Performs a variety of duties in street maintenance including working with concrete and sewer lines; sweeping and cleaning streets; perform operator maintenance including checking oil and other fluid levels; perform building maintenance including removing trash from buildings and moving items to storage or to other locations; assist with all other duties related to the Public Works functions.

Summary:
Under the supervision of the Captain, the employee performs administrative and receptionist duties relating to the Police Department. The employee prepares and files correspondence; and enters information into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) system.

Summary:
Under the direct supervision of a Captain or Lieutenant, the employee is assigned to learn the basic knowledge, skills and abilities that are needed to become a Police Officer. The employee participates in on-the-job training and directed self-study in preparation to attend an approved Alabama Peace Officers’ Standards and Training Commission (APOSTC) certification program. The preparatory training includes reading text materials and studying in order to acquire and maintain proficiency in the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to perform the tasks of a Police Officer. Employee receives training in law enforcement skills.
Crossing Guard
Summary:
Guards will work during public school year at designated school crossings sites; paid during official school holiday closings. Uniforms and training provided; may work traffic control for city-sponsored special events. Must be able to follow oral and written instructions; must have a valid Alabama driver’s license at the time of employment; work in all types of weather conditions; work independently under general supervision; must be able to communicate effectively with city staff and citizens of all ages; ability to endure prolonged standing and demonstrate effective dexterity skills.

Summary:
Responsible for collecting business license revenue and enforcing business license code compliance for businesses operating in the City limits within the bounds of federal, state, and local laws.
