The City of Selma has received a $2 million grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to implement a Lead Hazard Reduction Grant Program aimed at reducing housing-related health and safety hazards.
The City of Selma’s Lead-Safe Program is an initiative designed to create safer and healthier homes by addressing housing-related hazards in Selma. The program is funded by HUD’s Office of Lead Hazard Control and Healthy Homes and is implemented by the City of Selma to improve living conditions for low- and very low-income families, including households with children and senior citizens.
Homeowners and rental property owners within the Selma limits may qualify for grants to fund improvements. A list of potential items that qualify:

This initiative will make homes safer and healthier for Selma’s most vulnerable residents, ensuring long-term improvements to living conditions.
Small children are particularly vulnerable to the dangers of lead-based paint. Lead dust poses a significant risk, especially for babies and young children, as it can stick to their hands and toys. It can also be tracked into the home from porches or soil around the property. Lead dust is often invisible and tends to accumulate on window sills and floor surfaces.
