Building Inspections
Administrative Assistant
Summary:
Under the supervision of an assigned supervisor, the employee performs clerical, administrative, and operational support to the assigned department. The employee receives calls, greets and assists visitors, provides accurate information, and makes appropriate referrals. The employee performs data entry, prepares and generates reports and correspondence, processes mail, and maintains files. The employee performs prescribed procedures for receiving money and maintains office supplies.
Code Enforcement Department
Human Resources (HR) Generalist
Summary:
Under the general supervision of the HR Director, this employee provides professional personnel services for the City and its employees. The employee functions within established policies, procedures, and processes, and remains in compliance with all federal and state laws, as well as with the personnel policies and procedures set forth by the City, and through City ordinances. The employee consults with the Director and provides human resource-related counsel to department heads and employees on employment and personnel matters and remains current and up to date on laws that affect the City. The employee maintains centralized and official HR functions for the City.

Payroll Clerk
Summary:
Under the supervision of the City Treasurer, the employee performs accounting work relating to calculating pay, deductions, and issuing payroll checks. The employee works with the City Treasurer daily in the interest of responsible fiscal management. The employee prepares and coordinates changes to payroll and benefit records. The employee also assists the public in the payment of bills. Responsibilities and tasks are performed in accordance with well-established procedures and practices. Director of Finance & Administration
Summary:
The Director of Finance & Administration serves as the City’s chief financial executive and provides executive leadership for all financial and administrative operations. As a member of the Mayor’s Executive Leadership Team, the Director oversees budgeting, accounting, treasury, payroll, purchasing, revenue administration, tax and license operations, financial reporting, risk management, and internal controls.
The Director advises the Mayor on fiscal policy, financial planning, revenue enhancement, debt management, and long-term financial sustainability while ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and accounting standards.
This position plays a central role in advancing the City’s strategic priorities by providing accurate financial information, promoting transparency, and ensuring responsible stewardship of public resources.

Summary:
Under the direct supervision of the Training Officer, the employee is assigned to learn basic knowledge, skills and abilities that are needed to become a firefighter. The Fire Chief serves as the chief executive and administrative officer of the City of Selma Fire Department and is responsible for the overall leadership, management, planning, and operation of all fire, rescue, emergency response, fire prevention, and related public safety services.

Summary:
The Director of Human Resources & Organizational Development serves as the City’s chief human resources executive and provides strategic leadership for all aspects of workforce planning, talent acquisition, employee relations, compensation and classification, benefits administration, policy development, training, organizational development, and employee engagement.
As a member of the Mayor’s Executive Leadership Team, the Director serves as a trusted advisor to the Mayor and department leaders on workforce strategy, organizational effectiveness, succession planning, and personnel matters while ensuring compliance with applicable employment laws and City policies.

Director of Information Technology & Innovation
Summary:
The Director of Information Technology & Innovation serves as the City’s chief technology executive and provides strategic leadership for the planning, implementation, oversight, and continuous improvement of the City’s technology systems and digital initiatives.
As a member of the Mayor’s Executive Leadership Team, the Director develops technology strategies that align with organizational goals, manages outsourced technology providers, oversees cybersecurity initiatives, supports enterprise software systems, and advances innovation throughout City government.
The Director serves as the City’s primary technology advisor to the Mayor and Executive Leadership Team while ensuring that technology investments improve efficiency, accountability, transparency, and customer service.

The Field Coordinator supports field-based AmeriCorps programs by ensuring effective member support, logistical coordination, safety oversight, and quality programming. Administrative Coordinator – HUD LHRP & HHP Programs
Summary:
Under the supervision of the Director of Planning & Development, the Administrative Coordinator provides critical administrative, clerical, and organizational support for the City of Selma’s HUD-funded Lead Hazard Reduction Program (LHRP) and Healthy Homes Production (HHP) Program. The employee assists with program intake, recordkeeping, reporting, scheduling, and communications to ensure compliance with HUD requirements and smooth day-to-day operations. Healthy Homes Program Manager
Summary:
Under the supervision of the Director of Planning & Development, the Healthy Homes Program Manager is responsible for the overall administration, implementation, and monitoring of the City’s HUD Healthy Homes Production (HHP) Program. The Program Manager ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local program requirements; oversees staff and contractors performing housing rehabilitation and hazard control; manages budgets and reporting; and leads community engagement and education initiatives to improve housing safety and resident health outcomes. Summary:
The Director of Public Works & Infrastructure Services serves as the executive responsible for planning, directing, coordinating, and evaluating the City’s public works operations. As a member of the Mayor’s Executive Leadership Team, the Director provides strategic leadership for infrastructure maintenance, municipal facilities, fleet management, neighborhood improvement, environmental operations, and other essential public services.
The Director is responsible for developing long-range operational strategies, improving organizational performance, managing departmental resources, administering the departmental budget, and ensuring efficient, customer-focused service delivery that supports the City’s strategic priorities.

Summary:
Under the administrative direction of the Mayor and consistent with applicable Alabama law and City policies, the Chief of Police serves as the executive leader of the Police
Department and is responsible for the overall administration, operations, personnel management, fiscal oversight, public safety strategy, and community engagement
efforts of the Department.
The Chief develops and implements crime reduction strategies, operational initiatives, emergency response plans, and community policing efforts designed to improve public safety, reduce violent crime, strengthen public trust, and ensure accountability

Summary:
Under the supervision of the Captain, the Desk Clerk performs administrative and receptionist duties for the Police Department. Responsibilities include assisting the public, preparing and processing reports, maintaining records, and supporting departmental operations. ANIMAL SHELTER COORDINATOR
Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Police Captain, this employee serves as Manager of the Animal Shelter. The employee provides oversight, management, and supervision for department personnel and animal shelter operations. Responsibilities include establishing and implementing departmental goals and priorities in conjunction with the supervisor and City Council, planning and implementing services, managing expenditures within the approved budget and personnel matters, and ensuring that all services and functions fall within established laws, guidelines and mandates.

Summary:
Under the supervision of the Captain, the employee performs administrative and receptionist duties relating to the Police Department. The employee prepares and files correspondence; and enters information into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) system.
Police Officer Recruit
Summary:
Under the direct supervision of a Captain or Lieutenant, the employee is assigned to learn the basic knowledge, skills and abilities that are needed to become a Police Officer. The employee participates in on-the-job training and directed self-study in preparation to attend an approved Alabama Peace Officers’ Standards and Training Commission (APOSTC) certification program. The preparatory training includes reading text materials and studying in order to acquire and maintain proficiency in the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to perform the tasks of a Police Officer. Employee receives training in law enforcement skills.
Crossing Guard
Summary:
Guards will work during public school year at designated school crossings sites; paid during official school holiday closings. Uniforms and training provided; may work traffic control for city-sponsored special events. Must be able to follow oral and written instructions; must have a valid Alabama driver’s license at the time of employment; work in all types of weather conditions; work independently under general supervision; must be able to communicate effectively with city staff and citizens of all ages; ability to endure prolonged standing and demonstrate effective dexterity skills.
